I know this is new news to many of you and that it has been a while since we have posted. A lot has been going on and we wanted to wait until it was official. We are going to adopt another child from the same orphanage that Julia is in. His name is Sergey (not sure if this is his real name yet) and he is 5 years old with cerebral palsy. God has placed it on our hearts to bring him home too. With all the paperwork, travel and money, I asked Andrea from Reece's Rainbow how much it would cost to adopt another child from the same orphanage. Less than $5000 is the ransom for this little boy!!! One child is around $24K, so this was incredible to us. Most of the paperwork is the same and already done....a few more to duplicate. Anyways, before even asking Andrea this, I had searched her site to look at the children who are in this same place. I found this little boy and his happy smile captured my heart. He will be 6 this Feb. 12 and would be moved to a mental institution at this point. An American PT who visited him wrote he is well-behaved, patient, bonded well with caregivers, has good potential to walk with assistance, and was joking with everyone. This kid has potential!!! I will post pictures of him soon. He's adorable! Some of you may think Steve and I have completely lost our minds, but truly....the God we serve is way bigger than all of this. This is His plan as He has placed this on our hearts. He is another soul that will come to know Jesus. We are only a little nervous, but faithful that God will provide us with all that we need to accomplish this adoption and love and care for both of these children as well as our first four ; ) Please continue to keep us all in your prayers. Thanks so much!!
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27
Oh such good, joyous news!!!! Praise the Lord!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow you have to change the name of your blog! :)
That's wonderful news! I don't think you're nuts at all!
ReplyDeleteFrom a financial standpoint, it totally makes sense. Just $5K to ransom an additional child? How could you say no?!
Further, when you expand the family -- whether it's with a new biological child or adopted child -- it's a disruption to the norm and it takes time to find a new "normal." This is the case whether it's one new child or 3 new children, so better to have 1 period of disruption rather than multiple! It simply makes life easier when you have fewer periods of adjustment.
Plus, it always helps when 2 or more kids have a common background/language/etc. It provides them with a bit of comfort as you turn their world upside down when they arrive in a completely new and unfamiliar country!
That actually leads me to ask the question: can Julia speak? I can't imagine she'd have a huge vocab, being locked in a room with minimal contact. But sometimes, they surprise you! So can she speak?
Congrats!

That is so exciting!!! Praying that they come home to you soon!
ReplyDeleteYeah! I am lifting your family and the EE government up in lots of prayer! Praise God for parents and a family for two more children who will change many people's lives for the better!
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing! You guys amaze me every day... Today, Robbie and I were discussing his Thanksgiving homework, to bring a picture of something or someone for whom he is thankful. He thought, for only a moment and said; "I'm thankful for God, because He is bringing Julia home to our family" Now he has double reason to be thankful! Gonna be crowded at your house... can't wait for all the cousins to meet and play!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you! We hold this boy very close in our hearts. You can count us in on helping you get him home and will make a donation soon. Please do e-mail me if you get a chance and maybe I can tell you a little bit more about him:) I hope you got the pictures/videos that I shared with Andrea. If not, let me know and I can send you some!! Congrats!

I would much rather do what others may consider crazy for Jesus than live an apathetic Christian life.
