From Julia's mommy!

Hello everyone! I'm sorry it has taken me so long to write something. We have been so busy balancing all the things we have to do so quickly with letting everyone know what's going on. We soooo appreciated all of you who have been following this story! But please be patient if we fall short on updates : )

Anyways, I am Carey. My wonderful husband, who has been so dedicated to moving mountains to get to Julia, has already introduced our family. So I will start at the beginning as I'm sure many of you would like to hear how we found out about Julia and came to love her so much.

One night a few weeks ago, I was checking my Facebook page before bed. My good friend Carrie (whom I have known since I was a teenager.....I babysat her kids) posted Adeye's blog on Julia. I read it and was in tears. I donated money towards the fund, but really just wanted to pick her up right out of the picture and hold her in my arms. I couldn't stop crying as I tried to get ready for bed that night or when I went to bed. I started to realize that my tears (I'm not much of a crier) were beyond compassion for this little girl.....I wanted her! But my next thought was that my husband would never go for this. We have always wanted to adopt more children, but it was still "someday" in our minds. I had even brought the topic of adoption up to my husband as recently as this summer. His response was that we were not ready yet.....life was too crazy with the four kids we have. So I let it go. But that night I prayed that if we were meant to be Julia's family, God would tug on Steve's heart as He had mine. The next morning I sent Steve the link to Adeye's blog so he could read her story. I had not said a word to him about my wanting to adopt her. Later that morning, my husband texted me "Find out more about Yulia. We have to get her out of there!" I started bawling. God had spoken. The Holy Spirit had moved both of us to do something we had never considered before. Even though we had always talked of adoption, it was never a special needs child. Apparently, Steve had been at his desk at work, reading Adeye's post, and was crying himself. He said he was very embarrassed. So, I called my friend Carrie and through her got in touch with Adeye. The next couple of weeks was a bit of a roller coaster. And I am going to have to fill in the story from that point until now at another time. All of my kids just woke up and I need to start my day with them! I apologize, but I will be back! Thank you everyone for the prayers and support. We love you so much Julia!!

  7. Wow, what an amazing chain of events! God is so awesome. I just sat smiling as I went from Adeye's blog to yours and learned of how it all came about. We are in the process of adopting for the 5th time. This time we will be going to Ethiopia. We also experienced uncontrollable sobbing at the computer which eventually spurred us on to take this step. God bless you as you bring Yulia into your family!

  9. Welcome to the world of adoption ... and the world of blogging. You will find an amazing support group here.

I had felt the call to adopt for quite sometime, but my husband just wasn't on board. Then ... a "chance" email ... pics of some beautiful African children ... and my sweet husband heard the Lord tell him, "These are your children."

I'm the mama of a dozen children (10 bio. + 2 from Ghana). I have homeschooled my gang for 20+ years. And, I LOVE to support and encourage others who are walking the same journey that the Lord has led me down. I'd love to hear from you, if you have any questions about large families, homeschooling, and/or adoption.

    Be BLESSED!

    Laurel :)

  16. Oh Carey and Steve,
Reading your posts is just like reading our life right now. Like y'all, we weren't ready to adopt for a few more years with 4 kiddos, homeschooling, being an army family, etc... God moved on our hearts to step out in faith and run after another special needs treasure we found on RR just a few weeks ago. WX e are thrilled to see Julia find a home. We will continue to pray for you all as well as for that bright shining star! Until she is home in your arms.... Blessings to you all

  17. Hello Steve and Carey,

I would so appreciate if you took a few moments to check out my blog: jamesandcammy.blogspot.com
Julia has already played a major role in our adoption story. It was through her that we were lead to Reece's Rainbow and the little one we want to adopt! God works in fantastic ways! As we set out on this journey together, we hope that we can stand by each other and offer encouragement.

    From a sister in Christ,

    Cammy

  18. You are going to have the biggest support group behind you with this one! Julia is so special, and so are you. Thank you for answering His call to bring her home.

I experienced the same thing when Adeye posted about "Monroe." I blogged it here http://redcedar.wordpress.com/2010/07/20/is-god-calling-you/ And, after forwarding it to my husband, he wrote back: Let's look into it as soon as we can. I was shocked! But another wonderful family was ready for that sweet boy, and I am so glad he's going home.

Our time will come... In the meantime, I am overjoyed to witness your family's journey! God bless you.

  24. Hi there! Got your link through Adeye's blog and will be following along on your journey to bring your daughter home. I am so glad that she will soon have a family who will love & cherish her just for who she is :) I am reminded of the scripture that says "when you have done it unto the least of these my brethern, you have done it unto me". In our American mindset, Julia is probably considered one of the "least of these"...but just think--it's like you are doing it unto the spirit of Jesus, for He lives in us all. :)

May God Bless You & Keep you throughout this process...don't give up hope, keep rested & you will surely see God move mountains, large and small....:)

    Be Blessed,
    Diane from CT

  39. I am SOOOOOO thrilled to "meet" you!!! I don't know if Adeye shared with you about our Chrissie, but many people donated to Yulia's fund in memory of Chrissie. Our blog is www.AllArePreciousInHisSight.blogspot.com where you can read the story of Princess Chrissie from Serbia who went to Heaven on May 19, 2010. We came alongside Adeye to advocate and pray for Yulia, in memory of our Chrissie, and God moved mountains to raise over $20K in just 5 days. Amazing. Adeye's heart for Yulia and her emotional post about Yulia tugged at the heartstrings of people around the world. Little Yulia has no idea that she's famous, and she has no idea that her forever family has already found her!!! Thank you so much for stepping up and saying yes to adoption, particularly this type of special needs adoption. I pray Julia's time with your family will be such a great blessing to you and to Julia, filled with joy and love and hope and peace that comes from Him. So looking forward to following Julia's story with your family. Thank you!

PS The person who won the iPad is now using it as a fundraiser to try to get her 2 kiddos home. How fun is that?!?
